We're All Special

Have you ever asked yourself, “What do I have to offer this world?” and “Am I good enough?” I can tell you that everyone is special in their own way like a snowflake and everyone is good enough. We just have to believe in ourselves. It can be challenging sometimes to find the acceptance and inspiration from within but it is there. We just have to dig deep for it. After pondering being a writer and motivational speaker for 3 years now, I have realized that I do have good stories to tell. I look around at the shows on television, posts on Facebook, books at Barnes & Noble, TED Talks, and other motivational speakers and I think to myself, “If they can do it, so can I. Everyone has a story to tell and mine is just as compelling as and even more positive than a lot of other stories out there.” For years, I have been trying to figure out where I fit in and where I go from here to turn my passion into my full time reality and although I am still a work in progress, I have finally come to the conclusion that I have to create my own niche.
I don’t fit into any mold. I tell funny stories but I can’t be categorized as a comedian and even if I could, I don’t fit into any of the sub-categories -“stand-up comedian” or “sit-down” comedian. Because of the spontaneity of my Multiple Sclerosis symptoms, I would be more of a stand-up, sit-down, fall-down comedian but then again, I don’t have any punchlines so that line of work is out. Two years ago, I took a storytelling class hoping that I could follow that path but I found out I’m wasn't nearly as creatively detailed with my stories as the people in my class. I’m definitely unique and I need to blaze my own path. From minute to minute, I come up with different ideas but some things never change.
I’m a very positive person who tries to find the good in every person and in every situation. I choose to be happy and get through life with a smile no matter how challenging it can be at times. When I sit back and think about it, laughter is most definitely my coping mechanism. I make jokes about myself all the time that make me laugh and that encourage me to keep going. Will my stories and jokes make everyone laugh? No; however, if they make a difference in just one other person’s life, it will fuel my passion and re-define my purpose. I believe I was put on this earth for a reason that I am just now discovering. My purpose is to share my stories with others and make them laugh and smile.
It’s never too late to find your passion and purpose in life. For now, just realize that you are special and unique like a snowflake and that you have a lot to offer this world.
